The University of SouthamptonThe University of Southampton is one of the top 15 research universities in the UK and has achieved consistently high scores for its teaching and learning activities.Research represents the lifeblood of the University. It powers everything we do, from our innovative teaching methods to our growing portfolio of spin out companies. Without research we simply would not be able to teach in the way we do. At Southampton our students learn from world leaders in their fields, from the pioneers of the World Wide Web to the leaders of ocean and earth sciences, from world-renowned marine engineers to prominent medical professionals. A Southampton researcher is given the freedom to explore new directions and make their own discoveries in their own way. They work in constant partnership with industry, government and other universities to break new ground in their chosen discipline. Real-world applications are at the core of our research ethos, so our people work at the cutting edge, devising innovative solutions to the world’s problems. The University of Southampton School of Management The University of Southampton's School of Management is internationally renowned for academic excellence and is recognised as one of the UK's leading centres for management education. The School has achieved impressive results in the latest Research Assessment Exercise (RAE). Fifty five per cent of the research papers submitted by our academics in a wide range of areas from Management Science to Accountancy and Finance have been judged world class or internationally excellent in terms of its originality, significance and rigour. Research within the School is based around three clusters: Management Sciences, Accounting and Finance, and Management. Within these clusters a wide range of interests are represented. Our international reputation has been further enhanced through our research centres: the Centre for Risk Research; Centre for Research in Accounting, Accountability and Governance (CRAAG); Centre for Narrative Studies; Centre for Higher Education Management and Policy at Southampton; the Quantitative Financial Risk Management Centre; Centre for Operational Research, Management Science & Information Systems (CORMSIS), which is one of the largest and most prestigious groups of its kind in the UK. Our marketing research group is made up of a collection of academics and practitioners, experienced in a wide range of different areas of marketing both from theoretical and practical perspectives. Marketing at the University of Southampton is underpinned by what we have coined the new ‘DNA of Marketing ©’. This defining concept of marketing is based on our ongoing research and relationships with business partners. Our research and teaching, underpinned in the new ‘DNA of Marketing ©’, have moved away from the traditional 4Ps and branding approaches of marketing. Instead, we focus on new areas at the leading edge of marketing in the organisations of today and tomorrow; areas such as customer insight, customer experience management (CEM), marketing analytics, web analytics, and Web 2.0 marketing. These are areas which are driving marketing practice, but are notably absent in marketing theory and education. We are trying to rectify that. |
